1:50,000 map database construction by computer generalization is a important part of NSDI construction in our country. It is a very difficult task and needs a lot of time and man-power to do. It needs not only the available support of map generalization theories, but also a high efficiency and high quality computer software on map generalization to avoid the difficulties in map generalization by hand during past. To solve these problems, we carry out this research based on the project of map database construction by computer.This research's main contents are listed below:The research on map generalization related theories, such as interactive mapgeneralization, multi-scaled map data base; The basic tactics and technical plans in 1:50,000 map database constructionby computer generalization using map generalization software — DoMap;the establishment of the environment for computer generalization, thegeneralization implementation in detail, the examination and the evaluationfor the generalization results and so on are included; For DoMap, the complementation and enhancement of the generalizationfunctions and data management functions, the verification of mapgeneralization arithmetic and operators, and the adjust of related parameters; The improvement of software efficiency.In these researches, based on the activities, we creatively present useful tactics in map generalization, and give out a full new technical plan in constructions of DLG We believe this will have great significance for the future's successfully construction of NSDI in our country.
