An operational ocean wave modeling system, based on the newly released third-generationa wave model WAVEATCH III (version 2.22) was developed to predict ocean wave characteristics in the Northwest Pacific Ocean. Details of the system including wind input, system setup and output were discussed in this thesis. This system can output all wave parameters like significant wave heights, mean wave periods, wave lengths as well as wind data over the whole model domain or from single points. The operational ocean wave modeling system was verified using the the wind fields provided by the Chinese Climate Centre and MM5 wind data provided by the Ocean University of China. Modeling results were shown to agree well with the observational data such as the bouy data, shipping data and the Japan re-analyzed data. The system was also applied to model the typhoon waves. Comparisons of the modeling significant wave height with observed data were shown that the system can be used to predict ocean waves at the Navy Environmental Forecasting Center.
