Disposing of spatial data is always one of researching fields in GIS. The content of Disposing of spatial data is extensive. Some parts have been researched which are approach for mutual transferring between vector structure and raster structure, the switchover of different data format.This thesis has three parts. The first part introduces the composition, function and application of the geographical information system and the current situations of the development. Then have introduced some rudimentary knowledge needed to be used briefly, which are space data standard in the geographical information system, the development of component technology and GIS, and the object-oriented programming technology. The purpose is to prepare for the following content.In the second part, many approaches for mutual transferring between vector structure and raster structure have been analyzed synthetically. Whereas algorithms in this field are mostly confined to traditional following borders and on the thought searched for joints one by one at present, I bring forward the Continuous RunLength Codes for compressed format of raster, and an approach for mutual transferring between vector structure and raster structure. The Continuous RunLength Codes have high capability on data compressing, the rate for compressing has highly improved than traditional RunLength Codes, and can be realized easily, it's complexity is also lower. The boundary scouting method bringing forward in this paper can get the Continuous RunLength Codes directly. The distilling polygon method bring forward in this paper can get directly by the Continuous RunLength Codes, and that not must be reverted to non-compressed format. The method of calculation is highly reliable and occupies relatively small memory space.In the third part, the information of the SHP file has been analyzed detailed. The object-oriented programming technology has been adopted for manipulating the SHP file of the module that is for the switchover of data format. In this part, I have progressed zealously attempt in analytic methods and realizing techniques.
