Many people think that the next generation carrier of information be photonic. Photonic has more resources than electron can be used, such as amplitude, phase, frequency, and polarization. Photonic crystal is the very kind of material that can control photonic behavior. Left-handed material (LHM) is a new kind of artificial material, which has many special characters, such as negative refraction, amplification of evanescent wave, subwavelength resolution. The purpose of this paper is to study the electromagnetism characters of one-dimensional photonic crystal containing left-handed materials. Both permittivity and permeability of left-handed material are negative, so we must be very careful when we study left-handed material using MAXWELL functions. In the second chapter, we consider MAXWELL functions containing negative permittivity and permeability carefully. One of the main characters of photonic crystal is photonic band gap. We have computed the band structure of one-dimensional photonic crystal containing left handed materials. The computation results indicate that the band gap of one-dimensional photonic crystal containing left-handed materials is widened with the same structure parameters, and the frequency range of the band gap is higher. One-dimensional photonic crystal containing LHM has two kinds of special modes -discrete modes and tunneling modes, that do not exist in normal photonic crystal.Left-handed materials can be used to make pefect lenses. It is a very important use of left-handed materials. The original reason that LHM can realize subwavelength resolution is which can amplify evanescent wave. We have discussed the behavior of evanescent wave in one-dimensional photonic crystal containing left-handed materials with ideal approximate conditions. The results indicate that left-handed materials can amplify evanescent wave really when the structure of photonic crystal satisfy some condition. The symmetric photonic crystal is better than the asymmetric photonic crystal in amplifying evanescent wave. The permittivity and permeability of materials determine the interaction between electromagnetic wave and materials. In the fifth chapter, we have studied the variety of subwavelength resolution with parameter deviation of left-handed materials. We have...
