In civil geological investigation, the shallow seismic refraction method is always one of the main methods in seismic explorations, and had been subjected to special concern by the engineering seismic prospecting field. Usually It is used for detecting the thickness of overlayer (or law speed layer), the rise and fall of bedrock, concealed fault, distinguishing degree of cranny and estimating quality of rocks and the classification of wall rocks, etc. Therefore, seismic refraction method has played an important role in civil geological survey, highway base and tunnel investigation. This article is involved with the research of GRM method application based on the active fault investigation in Changchun City.First,in this paper, the foundational theories on elastic wave propagation and the principles of seismic refraction method are introduced, and then the advantages and disadvantages of two kinds of seismic refraction methods are analyzed. And the principle and application of GRM are studied deeply and systematically. Lastly, it verified the usefulness of GRM and the reliability of software by using the automatic processing software-WinSism to cope with the actual data. Applying the generalized reciprocal method to the investigation of active fault in Changchun City, we acquired the satisfactory result.
