| At present, a large quantity of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) which belong to four scale levels have been produced by the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping. These DEMs have been used in many departments of our country. However, the features of topographic information of these DEMs have not been clarified. Based on the summaries of former researches on topographic information and DEMs of Loess Plateau in North Shaanxi, This thesis comp up with a new concept, Terrain Information Parameters (TIPs) of DEMs, and explain the relations between TIPs and real landform. Firstly, based on SOS, SOA and TCI, which is come up with by this thesis first, define the conception of TIPs and explain how to derived TIPs from DEMs. Secondly, illustrate the spatial distributing feature of TIPs in Loess Plateau in North Shaanxi with typical datum and geostatistical analyst. Thirdly, compare the differences between different TIPs with different scales and resolutions and get the influence of spatial scale on TIPs. At last, study the relations between TIPs and other terrain factors derived from DEMs to verify the value of TIPs in practice. According to the results of experiments, TIPs can reflect the variety features of terrain and quantify the topographical information and explain the spatial distributing of landform.
