During the course of exploratory data processing, the most important aim is to discriminate between geochemical anomaly and background, and to find out geochemical information on ore.The fluctuating condition of geochemical background is always complicating. Based on different mathematic models, we always regard geochemical background as plane (traditional methods, fractual methods), continuous curve surface (filtering method) or discontinuous curve surface of abrupt junction (identification of geochemical anomaly according to different geologic bodies ).Panzhihua-Xichang area is located in the geochemical provinces or megaprovinces of PGE, its ore-forming potential has been confirmed by many geologists. The background of PGE element of stratum and magmatite in different stages has changed a lot because the evolution of Panzhihua-Xichang orogen is complicating.Under the guidance of new thought, Pt and Pd are taken as direct pathfinder elements to search for PGE, we employ four kinds of processing techniques to analyze the geochemical data. Then we are able to determine the anomaly.During the course of traditional geochemical data processing, we set the geochemical anomalous line (mean+1.65× standard deviation). The analysis result has proved that the anomaly agrees with the Emeishan basalt.During the course of fractual processing, we have determined the PGE anomaly area by the research on the relationship between Element content and its corresponding area. The result has proved that most PGE geochemical anomalies are located in the Emeishan basalt and the basic rock massif.The subregion median contrast filtering method can avoid the influence of geology background. The result has proved that this method can avoid the large anomaly area and also intensify the anomaly area which is located in low geology background.In the article, we first propose the new research approach "we determine the anomaly area according to different geologic bodies". We also complete the design with the help of GIS software. By using the new method, we divide the area into several geologic bodies according to basic belt, magmatic rocks and etc. and then we could determine the anomaly area for subregion. All the results have proved that this method can avoid the influence of geologic factors upon geochemical background. The research result is significant for the following work.Comparing the four methods mentioned above, the fourth method is most suitable for the need of this area. All the eighteen selected area are of great significance for the following exploration.
