This paper described the distribution of the genus physalis inChina and the use of the genus physalis in food industry, in medicineindustry, in light industry and chemical compounds of Physalisalkekengi L.var. francheti (Mast.)Makino. At the same time, thispaper generalized the primary condition of plant steroids, includingclassification, distribution and use. At last, the structure andpharmacological activity of physalins were concluded in this paper. The study of this paper embraced four points: inhibition ofbacterium activation by physalins, the comparative study on physalincontent in four parts of Physalis (calyx, fruit, leaf and stem, root), preliminary study on polysaccharide content in Physalis fruitand on fatty acid in Physalis seed. The results were as follows: (1) Physalins inhibited the growthof Staphylococcus aureus, Basillus subitilis, Escherichia coli ,Bacterium proteus. Inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus and Basillussubitilis was stronger than one of Escherichia coli and Bacteriumproteus. It could be presumed that physalins could widely inhibitthe growth of bacterium, and that inhibition of gram-positivebacterium was stronger than one of gram-negative bacterium. (2) Thecomparative study on physalin content showed that the content ofphysalins in leaf and stem of Physalis was almost equivalent to oneof calyx. The leaf and stem of Physalis possibly has potential...
