The distributing in environment, transfer rule and effects on health of many elements are different with its various valencies, so the valencies analysis of element is especially important. This paper focuses on direct determination of anions in environmental water samples by reversed-phase ion-pair chromatography and effects of Se on the growth of vegetable seedling under Cr stress. The paper consists of four chapters: Chapter one: The separation principle, retention mechanism, various factors affecting retention of reversed-phase ion-pair chromatography and its history, actuality, application progress are reviewed. Chapter two: a rapid and efficient method was developed for successful separation and determination of anions containing sulfur or nitrogen (NO2-, NO3-, SCN-, S2O32-, C6H5SO3-) on the ODS C18 column by reversed-phase ion-pair chromatography with photodiode array detection. Various factors affecting the chromatographic separation and quantitative determination including the concentrations of ammonium tetrabutyl bromide (TBABr) and tetrahydrofuran (THF), the proportion of methanol (CH3OH) and water, ionic strength were investigated. Under the optimal chromatographic conditions, the concentrations of NO2-, NO3-, SCN-and C6H5SO3-were detected directly in environmental water samples. Chapter three: The actuality and application progress of the heavy metal and selenium zoology behaviors in environment are reviewed. Effects of selenium or chromium on the growth of vegetable seedling and selenium on the growth of vegetable seedling under chromium stress were studied by water culture using cole, cabbage and radish seeds as experiment material. The results showed that various valence chromium and selenium at low concentration could improve germination force, germination rate, germination index, vigor index and inhibition index of vegetable root growth, but at high concentration had inhibition...
