In this paper, with the help of Krasnoselskii Fixed Point Theorem, we systematically study the existence of positive periodic solutions of a class of nonautonomous difference equations, which is general enough to incorporate as special cases many models proposed in population dynamics and hematopoiesis. Easily verifiable sufficient criteria are established, which generalize and improve related studies in the literature. Moreover, in order to illustrate the generality and easy applicability of our study, we apply the criteria to derive sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of positive periodic solutions for some mathematical biology models. We also carry numerical simulations for some concrete models, which strongly support our theoretical studies.
