It is one of important trends in current GIS fields merging distributed computingtechnology into GIS. The demand for social information globalization is driving thedevelopment of GIS, and the constant development of IT technology has provided a strongtechnical support. "Flight Optimizer and Profit Maximizer System(FOPMAX)" isdesigned to enhance system performance according to the characteristics of industry andGIS software itself, by using the distributed computing technology . This paper first analyses current situation and international trend of GIS, carries onthe discussion to basic theory of distributed computing and application technology of GIS,and discusses several key techniques, including sharing techniques of spatial data, loadbalance and security management. which are the basis of designing frame of GIS based ondistributed computing (DCGIS). According to the latest computer technology and GIStheory, DCGIS dissertates design objective, interoperability model of DCGIS and thesystematic structural design of DCGIS in details, proposing the solution of distributedcomputing technology. Finally, an implementation of DCGIS in FOPMAX is described.According to the performance of the FOPMAX, the article gives evaluation to the systemand makes some ameliorative suggestion.
