As the boundary between land and water, the coastline contains abundant environmental information of geography. Therefore, the coastline is one of the most important elements in coastal zone, and its dynamic variation has significance in economic development, environment protection, as well as human activities.Firstly, current research status is summarized based on the concept of coastline. Secondly, utilizing TM remote sensing data, coastline analyses are carried out on by means of current Geographic Information System. It is pointed out that current GIS lacks efficient management and analysis functions for dynamic information, especially for coastline changes. In order to resolve this problem, the concept of stationary points is introduced, and a coastline analysis method is put forward and realized. Through analyzing stationary points, the dynamic changes of coastal siltation or erosion can be obtained. Thus, the analysis of coastline changes can be accomplished automatically. In the end, combined with GIS software, the algorithm can realize the systemic inquiring and analyzing of coastline.Coastlines with various spatial relations are simulated, and experimental analysis is performed on them, as well as the real coastlines of Yellow River Mouth and Liaodong Peninsula. It turns out that this dynamic analysis method is valid. This algorithm can be embedded in the current GIS to make up for the deficiency of dynamic analysis of coastline as a function expansion.
