Equation of state (EOS) is, in a broad sense, the functional expression which gives the relationship of the vary parameters for the substance system, which shows the properties of the substance in the condition of thermodynamics. Narrowly speaking, EOS is the relationship between the pressure , the volume and temperature of substance system in thermodynamic equilibrium. The mutual effect potential among particles expresses the mechanical and thermal properties. EOS can be obtained by the mutual effect potential and by taking advantage of the correlated theory of thermodynamics. So we can see that the relationship between EOS and the mutual effect potential is tight and the research of the relationship is an important branch in the basic field. Because the materials of solid have wide applications in actual life and producing, the study of EOS on solids is meaningful in many basic sciences such as thermodynamics, statistical physics, physics of condensed matter, atomic and molecular physics, geophysics, planetary science, chemical physics, etc. In this paper, we discuss the fundamental theory of EOS, the relationship between the EOS of solids and the mutual effect potential, the theoretical models of EOS of solids and some applicable semi-empirical, semi-theoretical EOS of solids. For another thing, we suggest a new model of potential energy and deduce a new isothermal EOS and apply it under the condition of high pressure and compare the theoretical results to the experimental data in order to test its applicability and effectiveness. In addition, a new isobaric EOS of four parameters is obtained by using the second isothermal bulk modulus and we may test, compare and analysis it by comparing with the experimental data. In the introduction, we briefly review the development history of EOS, illustrate its typical applications in many fields and recommend its predominant methods of investigating EOS at present. In chapter one, the basic knowledge of the solids and EOS is given. And we generalize the basic knowledge of the structure and properties on the solids, conceptions of EOS and some thermodynamic parameters. In chapter two, we introduce some common isothermal EOS on solids, the related parameters and the several ways resulting in the EOS. We also compare the deduced new EOS to the other famous EOS. In chapter three, some common isobaric equations of state and the related parameters are introduced .We list some empirical EOS and clarify their models of theory. And we compare and test the new EOS derived by this paper to the experimental results.
