With the development of laser techniques, the optical cavity has played an important role on monitoring laser mode, measurement and narrowing of laser linewidth, laser mode cleaner, laser frequency stabilization, optical spectrum and cavity-QED etc., due to its advantages of ultra-low losses, high finesse and narrow linewidth. In this thesis, it is mostly showed about the setup and the losses measurement of high-finesse optical cavity, including its application to measuring the linewidth of semiconductor laser. For the example, it is used to measure the linewidth of DBR laser and research the rules of linewidth influence of injected noise on the semiconductor laser. On the above basis, the high-finesse cavity can make an application in cavity-QED experiment. The main parts of this thesis are as following:Part 1: It is briefly introduced the history and types of the F-P cavities, including the basic principle and parameters of the F-P cavity. Moreover, the analysis is showed about the relations between the cavity finesse, ringdown time, quality factor and the losses. In addition, the distributing function of electric field in the cavity and its relevant factors are showed.Part 2: The background and principle of measuring the losses in the high-finesse cavity with the technique of ringdown are showed and the high-finesse cavity composed of super mirrors, with cavity length of 17.8mm is set up. By cavity-ringdown experiment, we can get the finesse about 2×105 and total losses of the high-finesse cavity about 30ppm.Part 3: The application of high-finesse cavity. The high-finesse cavity can be used to measure the laser linewidth due to its narrower cavity linewidth, with which the linewidth of DBR laser is measured as 1.49MHz. The theoretical analysis and experimental research on injected noise influence of linewidth are presented when the semiconductor laser is in the condition of free running and optical feedback.
