Studies on growth and physiological properties of photosynthesis of Anthurium andraeanum Lind leaves were conducted in open-top chambers with elevated [CO2] (700 ± 100μmol mol-1,T1; 1000 ± 100μmol mol-1 T2) and ambient [CO2] ( 360 ± 30μmol mol-1, CK) for 30d (short-term experiment) and 150d(long-term experiment). The main results were as follows:The net photosynthetic rates of plants under elevated [CO2] were 22%~72% higher than those under ambient [CO2] either in atmosphere environment or in individual environment during short-term experiments, for example, the Pn of Anthurium andraeanum Lind in T1 and T2 environment were 6.26 μmol CO2 m-2s-1 and 8.01 μmol CO2 m-2s-1 respectively, but that in CK environment was 4.66μmol CO2 m-2s-1 The Pn of Anthurium andraeanum Lind in elevated [CO2] were lower than those in ambient [CO2] after 90d treatment, it showed that Anthurium andraeanum Lind in elevated [CO2] might have photosynthetic acclimation during long-term experiments. CE,AQY and WUE of Anthurium andraeanum Lind in elevated [COa] were higher than those in ambient [CO2], while Gs and Tr occurred reverse trends during whole experiment. The height, leaf area of plants under elevated [CO2] were higher than those growing under ambient [CO2 ] In short-term treatment, the plant in T2 environment grew better than that in Tl environment, but the plant occurred reverse trends in long-term treatment. At the end of experiments, the height at Anthurium andraeanum Lind in Tl and T2 increased 112.0% and 107.7% as well as the leaf area 109.8% and 103.5%; The fresh and dry biomass in both shoot and root were increased in elevated [CO2], while the root/shoot ratio slightly decreased.Elevated [CO2] treatment leaded to the differential characteristics in microstruc-ture of leaves that displayed mainly in the stomatal density and stomatal conductance decreased, and in ultrastructure of chloroplasts that displayed mainly in the change of configuration of thylakoid membrances and the increase of accumulation of starch grains in chloroplast.Elevated [CO2] treatment resulted in the larger accumulation of carbohydrate (soluble sugar and starch) in leaves of Anthurium andraeanum Lind during short-term experiment, but the difference of three treatment groups is no striking during long-term experiment.Chlorophyll content , Chlorophyll a/Chlorophyll b ratio in leaves increased, while soluble protein decreased in elevated [CO2] during experiments. Elevated [CO2 ] led to the increase of RuBP carboxylase activity and the decline of glycolic acid oxidase activity during short-term experiment, but the RuBP carboxylase activity decreased after 60 d, the glycolic acid oxidase activity increased after 90 d.Elevated [CO2] promoted the florescence ahead and flowering stage longer and flower leaf area larger. The florescence ratio of Anthurium andraeanum Lind in Tl and T2 were 0.121 and 0.212 which were higher than that of CK(0.058) at the tune of 40d treatment; While the withered ratio of flower leaf in CK,T1 and T2 were 39.13%,6.35% and 3.45% at the time of 150d treatment, additionally the area of flower leaf of Anthurium andraeanum Lind were 39.35cm2,52.30 cm2 and 50.83 cm2 respectively. On the whole, the Tr and Gs of leaf of Anthurium andraeanum Lind decreased under elevated [CO2] and WUE increased, these might be beneficial for the increase of Pn and chlorophyll as well as accumulation of organic compounds which promoted plant growth and florescence and flower leaf area, furthermore, the improvement of quality.
