The aim of this thesis is to study the effect of fullerene (Ceo) and its derivatives on the growth of different cells .Water-soluble fullerene is prepared by polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) mediating method, the effects of fullerene and its five derivatives solutions on several kinds of cells (HLGOcel^ HeLa cells, DD1 cells, etc.) are studied by MTT method. Furthermore, to preliminarily explore the mechanism of Ceo and its derivatives on cell growth , superoxide radicals (O2) produced by these substances are monitored with photon calculator .The results show that the aqueous solution of fullerene (C60) can promote the growth of HL60 cells , while it has no obvious effect on growth of DD1 cells and HeLa cells . The action of Ceo is independent on light irradiation . The effects of fullerene derivatives on cell growth are related to light irradiation condition and the kinds of fullerenes and cells . The C60-PVP solution can produce superoxide radicals under light irradition , but not under dark . All fullerene derivatives can not produce superoxide radicals , and polyhydroxylated fullerene derivative (C60(OH)n) even shows excellent efficiency in eliminating them .Our result suggest that the fullerene (C60 and its derivatives) can cause different effects on the growth of different kinds of cells , but these effects seem unrelated to the formation of superoxide radicals .
