There have been frequent geological disasters of landslides in the area of Yangtze River Three Gorges, especially in the vicinity of Lianziya hazardous rock mountain, where the constant deformation has been observed in the past several years, and the condition has become worse. Furthermore, field observations and data records showed the traces of possible large-scale landslides, which would result in drastic damages to the shipping and the water consonancy project on Yangtze River areas, and endanger the nearby residents and their properties. Therefore, it is important to predict the landslides to minimize the damages. The traditional data processing system, however, cannot meet the present requirements. With the development of GIS, it is easier and more efficient to develop landslides forecast system. The following items summarized the main points of this study. At first, this thesis outlines the disaster of landslides and study significance of landslides forecast, as well as the development of landslides forecast based on GIS.Secondly, the feature of Lianziya hazardous rock mountain was developed, and the database system was set up based on the monitoring data in the last several years and Lianziya hazardous rock mountain geological diagram data. Thirdly, the integrated methods of VB and Maplnfo were analyzed, VB program for integrated map developed, and a user friendly and efficient interface set up. Subsequent to the VB program, the development of formula system was briefly introduced. Finally, the overall design of the landslides forecast system based on GIS is introduced, and a practical and efficient landslides forecast system was developed based on GIS. The system's management and motion, and the findings of this research were also described.
