Abstract/Summary:
From March, 2002 to Dcember 2002 the resting metabolic rates for 66 fish of Pelteobagrus vachelli (Richardson) larves, which were collected from Jialing River in Beibbei with weight ranging from 7. 2g to 9.4 g, were measured by continue梖lowing respirometer at the temperatures of 15℃, 18℃, 21℃, 24℃,27℃ and 30℃, respectively.The results were as follows:(1) At the temperature of 15℃, 18℃, 21℃, 24℃, 27℃ and 30℃, the specific metabolic of the fish were 102. 70, 116.76, 128.25, 144.58, 161. 89 and 180. 59 mg02 . kg-1 . h-l respectively.(2) The specific metabolic rates increased with temperature increasing. The relationship between temperature and resting metabolic rate is: M=11.33 r0.8067.(3) The regression between temperature and breath frequency of Pelteobagrus vachelli (Richardson) was also studied in this research . Temperature not only affect the oxygen saturation but also effect the oxygenconsumption. Specific metabolic rate effect the oxygen consumption of fish directly. Regression analysis showed that the relationship between breath frequency and temperature was: F=2.21T1.23 (N=66 , r=0.988, P<0.01) /(4)Based on the models reported the standard-weight metabolic rates of Silurus meridionalis and Silurus asotus were estimated. The metabolic rate in Pelteobagrus vachelli (Richardson) was higher than those two fishes under this study temperature respectively. The discussions suggested:The metabolic rate in Pelteobagrus vachelli (Richardson) was higher than that in either Silurus meridional is or Silurus asotus could be understood on the different ecological habits among them. For example, the level of spontaneous activitie in Pelteobagrus vachelli (Richardson)vas higher. The parameters A, B in the formula of temperature effect on resting metabolic rates between Pelteobagrus vachelli, Silurus asotus Linnaeus and Silurus meridionalis compared with each other.
