Ordos Plateau is a multi-layer and complicated ecological transition region,which exhibits complicated environmental and ecological characteristics. It is useful to study the relationship between plants and environments of this region for improving our understandings of the ecosystem frangibility of Ordos Plateau and the significant roles of vegetation in maintaining the structure and function of theecosystem.The characteristics of precipitation,temperature and their combination determined the special ecological environment pattern of Ordos Plateau. To study its evolutionary trend contributes to understanding the succession process of the ecological environment of Ordos Plateau. In four time scales:ten-day,month,growing season contrasting to nun-growing season and year,the climate data which included near 30 years and were collected by eight weather station on Ordos Plateau were analyzed. The results showed that the mean annual temperature and the mean monthly temperature in February,September and December had increased significantly. The annual precipitation did not show significant changes but its distribution pattern had changed obviously. Some factors closely related to plant growth were used to synthetically analyze the climate characteristics of Ordos Plateau. And Ordos Plateau was regionalized to three synthetic climate types as following:Type I,sub-humid and low evaporation,Type II,semi-arid,semi-humid and moderate evaporation,Type III arid and high evaporation. According to different climate types,different vegetation should be maintained. This conclusion has instructional significance for the restoration works conducted in this region.Three experimental sites were selected from east to west on Ordos Plateau for measuring the main physioecological indices of Caragana intermedia such as photosynthesis rate,transpiration rate and water use efficiency to study the response of same plants to different environments. The photosynthesis rate of Caraganaintermedia in Etuoke Banner was highest,second in eastern Dongsheng and lowest in Hangjin Banner. But the transpiration rate of Caragana intermedia in Hangjin Banner is the highest and there is no significant difference between eastern Dongsheng and Etuoke Banner.The vegetation can reduce the soil surface temperature coved by vegetation and that nearing plant and affect the water evaporation of soil surface at last. Using the non-contact infrared ray temperature measurer and an index of temperature effect proposed by ourselves,the effects of Artemisia Ordosica and Caragana intermedia on temperature at soil surface around individual plant are studied and compared with each other. Comparison of temperature at soil surface showed that Caragana intermedia has more obvious effect on soil surface temperature than that of Artemisia Ordosica.
