In this thesis, we derive a new quark potential by constructing the effective theory of quantum chromodynamics(QCD) with dilation inspired by superstring theory and study this new quark potential in heavy mesons sector. We calculate the spin-average energy levels of heavy mesons and analyze the influence of model parameters to energy levels. The obtained results are compared with that of other potentials and agree with the available data. The thesis includes two parts:First, we give a review of various potentials used in the constituent quark model. It is shown that the Cornell form is a typical quark potential and other forms of potential are its modification. Furthermore, we consider the vacuum color screening correction to Cornell potential and find corrected potential gives a better fit to energy levels and mean-square-root (M.S.R) radii for heavy mesons, including J and T families.Second,we obtain a new quark potential from the effective dilaton-gluon-coupling inspired by superstring theory and devote more effects to understand this new confinement generating mechanism through the investigation of the phenomenological application of this interquark potential in the heavy mesons sector. We obtain the mass spectra of heavy mesons by solving Salpeter equation and the Schrbdinger equation in a unifiedway , respectively. Then, we discuss the effects of relativistic kinetic energy on heavy mesons.Further work is needed to extend this new potential to investigate other properties of heavy mesons and the properties of baryons so as to test the reliability of this potential.
