We focus on the interface microstructure and elastic deformation properties of thin coating material in this article. First, AFM was used as a tool to observe the interface microstructure and a quantitative analysis of the interface displacement jump is made, then a method estimating the interface effective elastic module is given. Finally, the interface elastic modular is measured based on AFM Force Curve Mode. Here we present a method based on AFM Force Curve mode which can guarantee the material physical integrity during the test. So the E trend of coating-interface-substrate is obtained and shows that material microstructure really has an effect on the macroscopy mechanical behavior.Interface E is the macro-response of binding force between atoms, depending on the atom type and structure, and the potential energy. It is the energy function witch changing with the atomic distance determines the crystal elastic properties. Because there are much grain boundaries in interface phase, and the grain atom is different from the inside[1], interface E differs from the substrate E. Currently we are lack of effective strength evaluation methods for coating material with interface effect being taken into consideration. This article focuses on exploring how the interface microstructures influence the coating material elastic deformation.
