The utilization of renewable energy has played an important role in sustainable development of our society, economy, and environmental protection. Renewable energy, which includes hydro, wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, ocean energy and some other kinds of energy resources, has been widely used in the world. The most popular are solar energy and wind energy. China is a country with severe water shortage. To get fresh water from seawater desalination is an important way to solve the problem. But seawater desalination industry is high energy consumption. So it's a tough challenge for China, as the problems of energy shortage and environment pollution become more serious. However, if we can use the renewable resources to provide energy directly for seawater desalination, that will be perfect. It's no doubt that there will be dual effects as it can solve both water shortage problem and energy crisis effectivly.According to this hypothesis, the main contents of this thesis are as follows: Firstly, the distribution characteristics of wind and solar resources are investigated. At the same time, the structures and operating characteristics of Wind-Solar hybrid generation system and Reverse Osmosis (RO) Seawater desalination system are studied. Then, a RO seawater desalination system which would meet the requirements of the seawater desalination project on the island is designed. And the matching design for wind-solar hybrid generation system is done based on wind and solar resources data. After analyzing the working conditions of the system in different resources, the reasonableness of the design is verified. Finally, the reliability analysis of the system is carried out, the underlying causes of system failure are concluded, and the measures to improve system reliability are discussed.The working state of the system is decided by many factors because of its complicated structure. The application factors are only considered in this thesis. All designs are to ensure that the system is working well. In the end of the thesis, some directions for further study are suggested so as to provide a reference for continuous improvement and widely application of the system.
