Seismic ground response analysis is an important part of earthquake engineering, its results provide the basis for seismic design of engineering. Methods of seismic ground response analysis can be divided into equivalent linear approach and nonlinear approach. Equivalent linear approach has the following advantages: simple principle, generally well-known parameters, reasonable solution at low input motions and normal profiles, which has been used widely. But its solution may be inaccurate at higher input motions or complex profiles because of its shortcoming that is overestimated low frequency and underestimated high frequency. Nonlinear method is more accurately, but its implementation in practice has been limited because of unclear parameter selection. The code usage protocols need to be studied.Based on borehole sites record, actual site profiles data from a large number of seismic microzonation and seismic safety evaluation works, we used equivalent linear procedure and nonlinear procedures to calculate a variety of conditions, analysis and comparison of the methods reflect the similarities and differences, the applicable conditions of these methods has also been studied. The following are the main contents and innovative achievements:1.he author reviewed the studies and advancements in this field at home and abroad, expounded theoretical and practical significance of this research.2.Several soil dynamic constitutive relations are introduced. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed too. The author also introduces the common ground motion input methods used in engineering.3.This chapter briefly introduced and disscused several equivalent-linear procedures widely used at home and abroad (SHAKE and LSSRLI-1). The progress of the equivalent-linear method is mentioned too. Nonlinear procedures DEEPSOIL is introduced seriously. Its code usage protocols are studied.4.The ground peak acceleration and response spectrum of different sites and ground motion inputs are calculated for studying the impact of different methods. This section is the main part of this article.5.Based on borehole sites data and record, we used equivalent linear procedure and nonlinear procedures to calculate the surface seismic ground response, compared them with the observations to study and verify the application of two methods.6.In the end, we make a summary of all the work, point out the existing problems and the research which need to be done in the future.
