As a natural disaster, earthquake usually brings larger damages to lifeline engineering than others due to its abruptness. Because traffic system is an important part of lifeline engineering, once destroy is endured in the earthquake, not only a great loss of properties will be caused, but also a large prevention to the post-earthquake rescue work. The secondary damage will be increased largely since the supplies could not be carried to the disaster area timely. Therefore the study on traffic engineering network is very helpful and important for the post-earthquake rescue work. GIS has been widely used in various engineering fields because of its powerful ability of data processing and graphic displaying. In this dissertation, a comprehensive introduction about the earthquake damage evaluation and connectivity of transportation elements, the shortest path and the passing capability in traffic engineering network is accomplished. Based on ArcGIS software, a post-earthquake emergency evaluation system of traffic engineering is developed. The main content includes:1. The state of art for the applications of GIS in earthquake disaster mitigation internationally is present, simultaneously the using of GIS in traffic engineering is also summarized briefly.2. After the introduction of earthquake damage evaluation method of transportation elements, the connectivity and passing capability analysis methods of transportation elements are established.3. The related theories of traffic engineering network analysis are introduced, which includes emergency repair ordering, the network shortest path, maximal capacity path and the passing capability. The method for network analysis is determined too.4. The post-earthquake traffic engineering emergency evaluation system was developed based on GIS. It can deal with many questions include earthquake damage evaluation of transportation elements, emergency repair ordering analysis, the searching for the shortest path and maximum capacity path, and the passing capability analysis with a good visualization.
