In this thesis, amorphous GdCo and GdCo/TbFeCo magnetic thin films are prepared onto glass substrates by Radio Frequency magnetron sputtering system from a mosaic target. The effect of the conditions of sputtering technology on the Magneto-optical properties of GdCo and GdCo/TbFeCo magnetic thin films are investigated. And we also contrast the Magneto-optical properties of GdCo and GdCo/TbFeCo magnetic thin films.During the research process, the thickness and surface tension of the films are measured by Surface Profiler. Magneto- optical properties of single layer GdCo and GdCo/TbFeCo thin films are measured at room temperature using magneto-optical properties testing apparatus with maximum applied fields of 10000 Oe. The magnetic properties of the films are measured by VSM. The crystal structures of the films are analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD).X-ray diffraction shows that the all the sputtered GdCo and GdCo/TbFeCofilms at room temperature are amorphous.The saturation magnetic moment of GdCo films is about 0.007emu. The coercivity and Kerr rotation angle periodically change with the increase in preparing pressure. It is found that the Magneto-optical properties of GdCo films with the thickness being 100 nm are better than that of GdCo films with the thickness being 90 nm. After anneal treatment, the surface tension of GdCo films decrease, but the coercivity and Kerr rotation angle do not increase evidently. These results indicate that with small coercive force and Kerr rotation angle GdCo films can not be used as high density hybrid recording media.The Magneto-optical properties of GdCo/TbFeCo films are universally better than that of GdCo films. It is found that with increase in preparing power, preparing pressure, substrate temperature, distance between the target and substrates, thickness of the films,the kerr rotation angle and perpendicular coercivity of GdCo/TbFeCo films increase originally,then they decrease, by the parameter control method. When preparing power, preparing sputtering pressure, substrate temperature, distance between the target and substrates, thickness of the films are 85 W,0.6 Pa, room temperature and 120 nm, respectively, the magneto-optical property of GdCo/TbFeCo film is best. The kerr rotation angle and perpendicular coercivity of the GdCo/TbFeCo film as high as 0.43°and 5.98 KOe, respectively. These results indicate GdCo/TbFeCo films can be as a candidate used as high density hybrid recording media.
