Entering the 21st century, people have made further exploration to the earth, and the domain of research has been expanded from its surface to the interior and the outer space. The methodology of Space Information Technology has also developed from the single statistical method to many new means such as GIS, RS and GPS. In the field of geoscience, the increasing studies on the Three-dimensional Space Information mainly include the following two aspects:the 3d Geographic Information System, taking the expression, display, demonstration and analysis of the apace information above the earth' surface as its research objects; and 3d Geologic Model, aiming at geological space under the surface, applied into mineral exploration, geological structure analysis and so on. They jointly constitute e research of whole Spatial Information Science.Modern earth science puts forward the development of geological prospecting work, while mass data analysis becomes the difficulty of reconnaissance work. Therefore, it is an urgent task to work out how to quickly grasp basic characteristics of geo morphology and analyze Stratigraphic structure. Conventional geological analysis mainly relies on hand-painted thickness chart, profile map and connected graph, but they are limited to the comprehension of the integral geological condition, which need new technology to help. Three-Dimensional Visualization Technology (3dVT) has matured enough to completely display geological and geomorphic features and analyze layered structures. By combining fine drilling data, geological analysis personnel can understand all kinds of complicated geological phenomena and geological structure, greatly quickening the geological prospecting work schedule.The thesis consists of the following five parts:Chapter 1 mainly introduces the research background and state of the current 3D visualization technology; and it also illustrates the content and structure of this paper.Chapter 2 probes into 3D visualization model and 3D GIS from the angle of the establishment of visual data model, the comparison of GIS systems with applying 3d visualization technology, and the analysis of the open source 3D visualization image engine.Chapter 3 studies 3D geological visualized modeling process and IDL application. This part emphatically introduces the surface modeling and body modeling methods, combining geological modeling ideas with functions and methods involved in IDL.Chapter 4 discusses 3D application and realization in geology exploration, it proposes a service platform for geological exploration by the analysis of geological exploration demands, and probes into different data structures based on the service platform. This part also designs and realizes the 3D geological visualized exploration system according to object-oriented style, and briefly introduces its main realization ways to provide reference for the practical application solutionsChapter 5 leads to a conclusion of this study:summarizing the essential contents of the research on 3d visualization technology, and anticipating the more extensive application of the technology in geological exploration information-based construction.
