The red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans), a subspecies indigenous to the southern United States, has been reported to be introduced to the wordwide habitats from its nature range, including various countries and regions in Asia, Europe, Australia, and Africa as a result of release of unwanted pets. This turtle is well known as a successful invasive species and regarded as one of the world's 100 most destructive invasive alien species. Since in the 1980s, T.s.elegans introduced to Chinese inland from Hong Kong, T.s.elegans are sold in all markets of Chinese city, and the wildlife population of T.s.elegans have been found in most areas of China. The purpose of this study is to investigatethe impact of T.s.elegans transmitting Salmonella on native turtles and the ecosystem, this paper analysed the Salmonella in T.s.elegans and their habitats. In order to provide data for preventing T.s.elegans invasion.Sampled the T.s.elegans from the natural waters (the Nandu River, the Wanquan River), half artificially waters (the East Lake of Haikou City, Jinniu Lake of Haikou City), artificial environment(Market, farm, restaurant), then sampled from cloacae of the T.s.elegans and analyzed for Salmonella by bacterial culture, morphological observation, physiological and biochemical tests and serotype detection. The results areas follows: the carrier rate of Salmonella in the T.s.elegans of the Nandu River is 51.70%(n=29), at the Wanquan River is 49.10%(n=55), at the East Lake of Haikou City is 55.60% (n=9), at the Jinniu Lake of Haikou City is11.11%(n=9), at the market is 81.80% (n=11), at the farm is 62.50%(n=8), at the restaurant is100.00%(n=8), and the total carrier rate of Salmonella is 54.26%. The serotypes of Salmonella at Nandu River are S.chailey, S.newport, S.litchfiled, S.tshiongwe. at the Wanquan River is S.senftenberg, Stanley, no Salmonella serotype is detected in other sample site. These Salmonella detected are all pathogens for human, they may bring a potential hazard for aquatic ecological system in the future and people who touch it.Sampled the T.s.elegans from free-living environment the Nandu River, the Wanquan River), the East Lake of Haikou City, Jinniu Lake of Haikou City, then sampled from cloacae (or sterile filtered), and analyzed for Salmonella by bacterial culture, PCR detection, physiological and biochemical tests and serotype detection. The result of the carrier rate of Salmonella is: Mauremys sinensi is 35.71%(n=14), Mauremys reevesii is 7.14%(n=17), Rana rugulosa is 25.00%(n=12) fish is 15.69%(n=51), Prawn is 15.00%(n=20), shellfish is 17.24%(n=29). Water is 25.00%(n=25)The serotypes of Salmonella is S.partyphi. S.partyphiare is serious pathogens for human, native species also bring a potential hazard for people, Salmonella detected in water indicated that T.s.elegans bring a potential hazard aquatic ecological system in the future and people who contact it.
