Plant seed storage proteins are important nitrogen source of seed germination and early growth of seedling, the amount of seed storage proteins is an important indicator of quality of crops. In Arabidopsis, seed storage proteins are mainly delivered by vesicles. The delivery includes four steps:Budding, Movement, Tethering, and Fusion. Many factors are involved in the pathway, including Coat, SM, Tether factor, SNARE and other proteins. Tethering factors are essential for the first identification between vesicles and target membranes. Our previous study indicated that tethering factor MAG2 regulates transport of seed storage proteins between ER and Golgi complex. MIP1, MIP2 and MIP3 can interact with MAG2, but their functions are not revealed. Our purpose is to screen MIP gene defective mutants, and analysis their phenotypes.
