This paper focus on of Artemisia ordosica communities in the Mu Us Sandland and the Ulan Buh Desert. Depending on the field sampling, we obtained the research content:(1)the community characteristic and species diversity Change rule of Artemisia ordosica communities in the three habitats; (2)Quantitative classification and ordination of Artemisia ordosica associations in the Northeast edge of the Ulan Buh Desert; (3)Spatial distribution pattern of Artemisia ordosica+ Tamarix chinensis associations.Results:1.The Population structure, species composition and species diversity of Artemisia ordosica communities Have significant differences in different habitats. The variation had magnified since the spatial scale increases. Level of species diversity in three habitats:fixed sandy land> semi-fixed sandy land> semi-mobile dunes.2. Succession order of the Artemisia ordosica associations in the northeast edge of the Ulan Buh Desert:Artemisia ordosica+Artemisia sphaerocephala associations→Artemisia ordosica+ Nitraria tangutorum associations→Artemisia ordosica+ Hedysarum scoparium associations→Artemisia ordosica associations→Artemisia ordosica+Haloxylon ammodensron associations→Artemisia ordosica+Calligonum alaschanicum associations→Artemisia ordosica+Tamarix chinensis associations.3. Tamarix chinensis has similar spatial distribution pattern like Artemisia ordosica; their common traits showed an obvious competition. Spatial distribution pattern of the seedling stage Tamarix chinensis showed significant clumped distribution.The most intraspecific competition existed in between the seedling stage Tamarix chinensis and the adult Tamarix chinensis.
