Abstract: At present , international energy is in short supply , and the energy security has increasingly become the focus of all countries. Carbonate exploration and development has attracted the world's attention. In consideration of economic and political interest s, major countries increase the investment in carbonate oil and gas exploration and development. Liyue basin locates in the Nansha block of the South China Sea. It suffered from compression, rifting, drifting and collision with Borneo block since Mesozoic. It is a complicated superposition basin with potential exploration. The well developed carbonate platforms are unique for both research and exploration target. Based on new seismic profile NH973-2, in combination with published well and seismic data, the stratigraphic sequences across the section are analyzed in order to reveal the sedimentary sequences and seismic characters in the Liyue Basin. The carbonate platforms are characterized by chaotic external form, cluster internal reflector. Based on tectonic subsidence calculation, we divided three stages tectonic evolution in Liyue basin during Cenozoic and indicated tectonic control the development of Liyue carbonate platform. Using Jason, Inversion results implicates that numerous reefs grow on Liyue Bank. It also selects a seismic line segment as a target to go through a tectonic elevation restoration to research the tectonic evolution of Liyue Basin, which indicates relationship between Liyue Block and Palawan Block and extension model of Nansha Block.
