Environments becomes increasingly complicated and dynamic,organizational needs to be more flexible.Medical team working together to combat the pneumonia outbreak,fire and medical teams cooperate to control the fire and rescue the people,music and animation teams cooperate to make a film.Multiteam systems are increasingly used to complete challenging tasks that can’t be accomplished by individual teams.One of the challenges multiteam systems face is teams have definite boundary.Across-team cooperation need to solve the problems that the team member are short of autonomic motivation on boundary-spanning.Members need to engage in boundary spanning: actions to establish linkages and manage interactions with other component teams.Team member boundary-spanning behavior has been defined as actions to establish linkages and manage interactions with other component teams.From team internal to external relations,the original network of team members has changed,however,across-team cooperation still lacking of stable and clear channels for communications,needs to attention the relatedness between teams member.Previous research have found the importance and value of team external relationships,however,they neglecting the further refinement of the relational coordination in specific context,how team external relations stimulates team member boundary-spanning behavior,the processes and outcomes remains to be further explored.Based on this background,this study focuses on the following issues: What is the specific content and differences of relational coordination in the context of multiteam systems,Boundaries define roles,tasks,goals,and relationships,How does relationships across work teams affect team member boundary-spanning behavior orientation? How to balance the benefit of the team in the process of accomplish the goal of multiteam systems by across-team cooperation,How to strengthen the positive role of team member boundary-spanning behavior.This paper intends to answer the above questions through theoretical deduction,Case study,and empirical research,results show that:(1)Based on exploratory case study,this study notes that as an important way of multiteam systems management practice,multiteam systems identification can exert a significant impact on team members’ cognition and behavior,which can furthermore affect the relationship and communication between team members.Based on the relational coordination theory,multiteam systems identification,shared vision,swift trust,knowledge sharing and innovation performance are identified as important factors affecting team members boundary-spanning behavior;(2)The impact of multiteam systems identification on team members boundary-spanning behavior.By using the method of questionnaire,tests the theoretical hypothesis of the generation stage of team members boundary-spanning behavior,this paper try to explore the mediator effect of shared vision and swift trust,and the boundary role of cooperative relationship;(3)The impact of team members boundary-spanning behavior on innovation performance.This study seeks to identify the process of team members boundary-spanning behavior and to realise relational value,explore the positive mediator effect of shared vision,and the negative moderating role of time pressure.The contribution of this study lies in:(1)This research expends relational coordination theory to multiteam systems context,which can provide important insight to solve the difficulties in across-team cooperation.(2)Find the differences in the contents and process of across-team relationship coordination in multiteam systems,this research proposed a theoretical model of the influence of multiteam systems identification on team member boundary-spanning behavior,and team member boundary-spanning behavior on innovation performance,this enriches current understanding and theoretical construction word about the formation and influence mechanism of team member boundary-spanning behavior in multiteam systems;(3)This research provides some practical guidance and enlightenments for identity management,accurate and frequent communication,realise relational value and identify risk factors.
