Social mentality is a macro social state of mind diffused throughout the whole society or social group categories over a period of time,which also represents the integration of the emotional tone,consensus and values of the whole society.In the journey of the country achieving the second centenary goal,a positive and harmonious social mentality can provide people with strong psychological support,while a decadent and negative social mentality will certainly increase the cost of socialist construction.Therefore,how to enhance the positive social mentality of the public and circumvent the adverse effects of negative social mentality have become realistic social issues that the Party and the country attach importance to.Under the complex and changing international situation,the social mentality of college students in China has gradually shown a diversified development,with the positive social mentality of being active and continuous progress,but also the negative social mentality of " Tangping" and " Foxi",which seriously threatens the healthy development of college students.As an important force for national development,whether college students can maintain a positive and healthy social mentality will directly affect the future stable development of the country,social order,economic development and people’s welfare.Given the lack of systematic exploration of the structure,assessment tools and influence mechanism of college students’ social mentality,this study combines various methods such as questionnaire,interview method,longitudinal design and strategy research to create the framework of “structure exploration → development trend→ influence mechanism →positive cultivation” to systematically reveal the developmental characteristics,influence mechanism and cultivation pathway.Specifically,it includes:Through a standard psychometric process,study1 used a "bottom-up" inductive questionnaire development model to develop a set of social mentality questionnaires,which were suitable for the sample of Chinese college students and both the reliability and validity meet the criterion of psychometric.The scale includes seven factors: Social security,social trust,social equity,social contribution,life satisfaction,positive emotion,and social stress.Study 2 used a cross-sectional design to survey 2,133 college students using the college student social mentality questionnaire from Study 1 and found that the dimensions of college students’ social mentality were ranked in the order of social contribution,social security,social trust,social equity,positive emotion,social stress,and life satisfaction.According to the results of cluster analysis,we can classify the social mentality of college students into positive(30.4%),average(51%)and warning(18.6%).In addition,the social mentality of college students also shows a specific development trend,which provides implications for carrying out education on social mentality enhancement of college students.Based on ecological systems theory,Study 3 to 5 explored the influence mechanism of college students’ social mentality from three perspectives: family environment,peer interaction and curriculum ideology politics respectively,through a one-year longitudinal design.Study 3 found that college students who received more positive influences from the family environment would have a more positive social mentality,which mainly played a role through positive coping styles,and this mediation effect was stronger among those who have high self-control.Study 4 found that peer interaction would indirectly enhance college students’ positive social mentality through the promotion of hope and optimism,and this mediation effect was stronger among college students who have high consideration of future consequences.Study 5 confirms that curriculum ideological politics is an important way to improve college students’ positive social mentality,and the function of curriculum ideological politics plays an indirect role mainly through cultural preference and cultural practice,especially when the school atmosphere is perceived to be low.Based on the above empirical research,Study 6 explored the path to enhance college students’ positive social mentality and educational strategies from the perspective of " family-peer-school-individual" multi-coordination.The above findings can not only help to further understand the development law and influence mechanism of college students’ social mentality,but also provide scientific reference for exploring the cultivation path of positive social mentality which is suitable for college students.
