So far, depending on deeply development degree, extensive cooperation area and nearly perfect organizational structure,European integration has become the example of a regional cooperation mechanism with most leading tension and discourse power. The traditional gains and non-traditional gains,as the driving factors, have not been simply separated, but are intertwined, and promoting the development of European integration at different stages of the process. Therefore, the initial plan of Six West European Countries is to establish a high integration organization involved in the economic, political, legal, social and cultural areas. However,in practice, the gains from economic can more meet the international and domestic demand of one country. So,the development of European economic integration is more prominent than in other areas.Based on the above, there is already a strong political meaning at the beginning of European integration, but the development of political union is the slowest in European integration. Moreover, not only the non-traditional gains as a new fresh perspective to analyzing the inner dynamics of the development of European integration, but it also as a new method to understanding and learning from the development experience of European regional integration. In the period of "traditional regionalism",traditional gains are the main driving force to promote the development of European integration.European integration began in the European Coal and Steel Community established in 1952.Although Western European countries initially focused on security, the ECSC eventually appeared as a department economic union. The signing of the "Treaty of Rome" in 1957 symbolized the establishment of a customs union, that is the member states of the European Community have achieved trade liberalization in the region. Therefore, traditional gains not only become the core driving force for the economic development of the six Western European countries, but also the inherent attraction of European integration enlargement. The signing of the "Single Europe Act" in 1986 makes a plan for establishing a common market in the next few years in Europe. Then European integration gradually emerged as a comprehensive economic union. After the end of the Cold War,the dissolution of the Soviet Union give back the national autonomy for many east European countries.moreover, the United States and the West country rely on their advantages of political, economic, and discourse power triggered a new wave of regional integration development.During the period of "new regionalism",the development of European integration is faster than before.Whether it is EU member states or countries seeking to join, the traditional economic gain is no longer its primary goal.Especially, when European Union was established, the guideline based on three pillars, common foreign and security policy and cooperation in the field of justice and home affairs, both highlighted the significance of non-traditional gains and promoted the development of European integration. They have become the fundamental driving force for the member states to join the regional integration, then promoted the European integration developed into an economic and political union.Generally speaking, the cost and benefit principle is one of the important criteria for a country to choose whether to join the European integration.However.only use economic indicators and data to measure the net gains of member states is not sufficient. Therefore, based on the above information, this paper will deeply study the non-traditional gains of member states in European integration. This paper will from the perspective of the purpose and needs of EU member states as the starting point to analyze the development of European integration.Firstly, the paper will use interdisciplinary research methods to enhance and broader the research perspective from the traditional gains to non-traditional gains in European integration.Secondly, based on the process of European integration, this paper will use historical and comparative analysis methods to deeply analyze the nontraditional benefits the member states have obtained.Thirdly, this paper will use the method of confirmatory factor analysis to analyze the non-traditional gains obtained by member states. This method set non-traditional gains as latent variables, and then according to the characteristics of European integration, select some observable variables for each latent variable to measure. Finally, the conclusion of this paper confirmed there is a complex and different reason for each country to join in European integration, and the theory of non-traditional gains provides more systematic and effective methods for researching the development of European integration. In addition, the empirical analysis test directly proves that nontraditional gains exist objectively in the development of European integration, and the gains of member states are related to their own national power. Moreover,in the whole twelve indicators, there are nine indicators that show the non-traditional gains and the national power have a positive relationship, like market size and financial market development;and two indicators that show the non-traditional gains and the national power have a negative relationship that they are trade openness and domestic security environment;and there is no relationship between discourse power and non-traditional gains. On the basis of empirical analysis and historical analysis, this dissertation also makes a detailed analysis of the future development trend of European integration and nontraditional gains. In recent years, although the situation of European integration has encountered severe challenges and doubts, the policy of EU adherence to joint development have not changed, and the European integration development strategy implemented by EU is more flexible and strategic. The specific performance is to promote the further development of European integration from the three dimensions of enlarging member states, implementing the European Neighborhood Policy and building the EU free trade area. Finally, based on the successful experience and inspiration of non-traditional gains to promote the development of European integration, this dissertation sorts out and analyzes the current situation of China’s regional cooperation, furthermore provides some constructive decision-making for China to participate in or create regional cooperation with other countries or regions in the future. |
