| In recent years,in the modernization and urbanization construction of ethnic areas of my country,Minzu squares have developed rapidly as an important spatial construction territory.Immediately, important ceremonial celebrations, national discourse, economic development and other elements are presented in the spatial expression of the Minzu square in the form of ethnic symbols.Minzu square,as the overlapping areas of multiple social spaces of the state, the market and civil society, shows the state’s developing concept for ethnic areas, and also reflects the understanding and response of local governments, markets and civil society in this developing process.Understanding the developed logic of ethnic areas has important research significance.Using the research method of ethnological fieldwork, this paper takes Yunnan Minzu Square as the research object and space theory as the research path.Through the research on the space shaping and production of Yunnan Minzu Square, this paper discusses the practicing process and action logic of the state, market and civil society in the construction of emerging Minzu square. The article firstly defines the Minzu square. It is believed that Minzu square refers to the category of public space with specific symbolic meaning directed by ethnic elements in a specific space. The main body of the space shaping of the Minzu square is the state, the content is politically instructive, and its participating elements include the market and civil society.Public display, publicity and education are the main spatial attributes of the Minzu square, and the Minzu square is also an important space for all ethnic groups to express their cultural wishes. On the basis of defining the Minzu square, the article systematically discusses the social practice around the construction of Minzu squares in ethnic areas at various administrative levels in Yunnan from five dimensions: country, market, society, individual living history and social change.Taking the “state” in the construction of the Minzu square space as the research perspective, the article first discusses the action logic of the state in the construction of the Minzu square. In the construction of the Minzu square at the first two decades of this century, the country had two typical discourse promotions: first, the local government presenting the promotion of this local culture in the form of space in the process of participating in the application for the “Intangible Cultural Heritage List”.In the construction of the Minzu square,it reflects the spatial “personality” of local culture.Secondly,as the national discourse sinks to the local government in the form of “ethnic unity” and “forging the Chinese national community”,the local government uses this discourse to reshape and write the spatial commonality of the Minzu square.Taking the ethnic element as the research perspective, the article also discusses how the state reshaping the public space of the village community in its leading rural modernization project, and then realizing its discourse governance of the grassroots society.Taking the market elements in the construction of Yunnan Minzu Square as the research clue, the article pays attention to the significance of financial capital and private market economy in shaping the space of Yunnan Minzu Square. In the construction of township-level Minzu squares, the Minzu squares are spatially connected with the periodic markets of the local society and become a part of the economic cycle of the folk markets. The article starts with Skeenard’s discussion on the structure of China’s rural market, and then discusses how the township market economy can form a systematic cyclical economic circle based on the lunar calendar.Taking this economic circle as an entry point,we discuss how the space of township-level Minzu squares participating in this cyclical market economy, and produces spatial meaning in it.In addition, the article also discusses how commercial capital participates in the Minzu square, and uses it as an endowing market factor to expand the space of the commercial market.Taking civil society’s participation and remodeling of the Minzu square as a research point, the article focuses on the subject of civil participation in the Minzu square, that is,the social space for how citizens and members of the village community express themselves in their daily lives. The article argues that civil society,as an important participant in the Minzu square,on the one hand, accepts the instruction of the state and the market on the spatial intention of the Minzu square,on the other hand,it also develops its own spatial meaning in its own practice, and the three together forming the total meanings of Minzu square spatial production. Finally, the article also discusses the spatial shaping of Yunnan Minzu Square from the perspective of personal living history and social changes. The article discusses the process of pursuing the meanings of life in different spatial fields with the different life trajectories of how two Lahu youths learning the ethnic culture, one becoming the guardian of the traditional rituals of the village, and the other going to the non-heir.Based on the further field research, the author believe that the Minzu square in the new era with social changes is the symbolic“dislocalization”.Borrowing from Giddens’ s concept of modern society, the author proposes a “dislocalizated Minzu square”.That is to say,in the way and scene of modern life, the expression of the Minzu square in the folk and the market is no longer the ontology that emphasizing the Minzu symbol, but a transcend-ethnic symbol that beyond the ethnic and urban-rural structure. The article believes that the spatial delocalization generated by the Minzu square has promoted the cultural exchanges and integration among various ethnic groups.Based on the discussion in the above chapters, the article discusses the spatial expression of Yunnan Minzu Square from the perspectives of the state, market, civil society, individual and social changes. The research believes that the construction of Yunnan Minzu Square is a spatial existence with the participation of multiple subjects. In the process of its production,Minzu square will gradually transform from the original single-subject domination to a multi-type oriented spatial form, and its functional nature will generate new spatial meanings with the transformation of the power of the spatial subject. As the most prominent spatial symbol of the Minzu square, the ethnic symbol has undergone the top to down instructions and down to top process of symbolic production. With the participation of multiple spatial forces, its symbolic meaning will also deviate from its own symbolic meaning. Finally, space itself has the ability to shape and transform, that is,the integrating initiative of space. As the main body of space design, human will also be guided by the dynamic integrating initiative of space itself and generate new spatial meanings. |
