| Tamils are typical cross-border peoples. From the perspective of "the national status of the countries where the nation is located" and "the geographical distribution of the nation world",it belongs to the cross-border ethnic type where the main body and the non-subject coexist in the cross-border ethnic type,so it is prone to the tendency of cross-border ethnic separation. After Sri Lanka’s independence, its government pursued an unfair policy against Tamils for ethnic and religious reasons in terms of language education, regional development, and immigration, resulting in the erosion of Tamils’ rights and interests. In the process of fighting for national rights,Sri Lanka’s Tamil problem gradually became radicalized, beginning to manifest itself in separatism and violent terrorism. With the support of Tamils in South India,pan-Tamilism developed rapidly, eventually developing the Tamil issue into a cross-border national problem affecting India’s internal security.,there was an international incident of Indian military intervention in the Sri Lankan civil war.The author is an international student from India. This article uses the theory of cross-border ethnicity, takes the cross-border ethnic problem of Tamils(cross-Sri Lanka and India)as a case, and uses multilingual materials such as Hindi,English and Tamil to analyze the cause of the problem and its development process from a historical perspective.Attempts are made to analyze India’s views on this issue from multiple levels, analyze the status, role and policy guidelines of the Indian government in problem resolution, study the root causes of the Indian government’s military intervention in Sri Lanka’s civil war,and explore the international impact of the problem of cross-border ethnic groups of Tamils. This article believes that the cross-border ethnic problem of Tamils is based on the fact that the national identity of the Tamils exceeds the national identity. In theory, ethnic ties and support between cross-border peoples are catalysts for the development of problems. The intervention of external countries is a booster for the internationalization of cross-border national issues. The superposition of various adverse factors inside and outside is an important reason for the escalation of cross-border ethnic problems. On the issue of cross-border ethnic groups of Tamils, military confrontation, national division and terrorist attacks are all important symbols, not essence of the problem.Although the governments of Sri Lanka and India have now controlled the development of pan-Tamilism,good national policies are the foundation for solving the cross-border ethnic issues. |
