Australia is one of the Asia Pacific countries, but its life style, deology and social system are originated from England and America. It depends on the United States in geopolitics and on Asian countries in geo-economy.After the Second World War,the relationship between Australia and Asia gradually changed from recognition to integration, from passivity to initiative.During the cold war,Australia also readjusted its ownership in international relations, turning its development vision from European countries to Asian countries and participating in more Asian affairs. In the context of the current U.S.returning to the Asia Pacific region,it is of great historical and practical significance to discuss the development and evolution of Australia’s relations with East Asia during the cold war period, analyze the development track of Asia Pacific International Relations after the war, strengthen Asia Pacific cooperation and exchanges, promote the development of East-Australia relations, and maintain peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia Pacific region.Under the guidance of dialectical materialism and historical materialism,on the basis of full investigation of the research results of scholars at home and abroad, this paper adopts the method of text analysis, with reference to the theoretical paradigms of international relations such as contemporary western realism, and at the same time adopts the method of interdisciplinary, using the method of combination of history, international relations, economics, politics and other disciplines Australia’s relations with East Asia are analyzed and studied comprehensively and systematically. The main achievements are as follows:(1)Before the Second World War,Australia’s national interest was to rely on Britain for its own security under the protection of Britain.During this period, the British opinion always played a decisive role in formulating the foreign policy of the Empire.Australia has not yet had an independent foreign policy, let alone a complete East Asian policy. After the Second World War,Australia began to turn its alliance object from Britain to the United States, which promoted Australia’s social and cultural fields to foster the sense of independence and autonomy, and also promoted the position of East Asia in Australia’s foreign relations, and began to work on economic integration with East Asia.(2)After the Korean War and the Vietnam War,Australia realized in the Asia Pacific region that it must cooperate with the middle power countries, not only for military cooperation, but also for economic and political cooperation. At the same time,Australia has established closer and extensive cooperation with non communist countries in Asia through friendly cooperation.Based on this,Australia has withdrawn its frontier defense strategy, started to strengthen its economic, political and trade ties with Asian countries, and gradually determined its position in the surrounding countries.(3)At the end of the cold war,Australia’s "China view" gradually changed from "China Threat Theory" to "China opportunity theory",and China’s image changed from opponent to partner. The change was mainly caused by the increase of trade and economic investment between the two countries, the need of security and defense, the increase of regional cooperation, and the decrease of American influence.Australia and Japan fought against each other in World War II,but after World War II,the two countries recovered and developed rapidly. Both sides realized that each other not only has a very important significance in bilateral relations, but also has a very wide range of common interests in multilateral regional and international issues, and then gradually launched cooperation in multilateral fields.(4)After the end of the Second World War,for the protection of the nation,Australia made an alliance with the United States. With the political pattern changing in the Pacific Asia Region Australia began to loose the relationship with the United States and increased its pace of integration into East Asia, actively expanded economic and trade exchanges, and developed political relations with East Asian countries. The geopolitical relations between Australia and East Asia, especially with China, have changed and entered a relatively long period of adjustment, and both sides are in their respective countries The importance of strategy is gradually increasing. With the continuous development and deepening of the geopolitical relations between Australia and China, factors affecting the development of bilateral geopolitical relations are also emerging. But we must have a clear realization that due to Australia safety, the relationship between Australia and America will have some trouble but it still will be a firm alliance.(5)There is a behavioral logic of a middle power in Australia’s diplomatic thought.First of all,Australia believes that its country is at the level of a medium-sized power,so it hopes to obtain international security through alliance with the major powers by virtue of its special geographical advantages and military conditions.Secondly,Australia believes that it is impossible to carry out independent diplomatic activities on a global scale by relying on its own examples,so it must make some choices. Therefore,Australia will focus more on the regional relations in East Asia and devote itself to playing a unique geopolitical role. Finally,Australia is willing to play a certain role in international affairs, gradually develop multilateral diplomatic relations and gradually enhance its own influence.
