| The historical subject painting May 3rd,1808(May 3rd in short)created by Spanish painter Francis Goya,which shows the major historical events of Napoleon’s cruel suppression of the Spanish people’s uprising.A masterpiece of anti-aggression and anti-killing.In 1865,French painter Manet,was deeply touched by this masterpiece when he visited Spain and was inspired by it.After three years,he created five classic works The Execution of Maximilian(referred to as The Execution)reflected the execution of Mexican Puppet Emperor Maximilian in 1867.Since then,"The theme of Shooting" and "Classic Forms" of Goya’s May 3rd and Manet’s The Execution has been continuously respected,resolved and reference by later artists,and Guernica and North Korea Massacre created by Picasso pushing this series of acceptance to the peak,forming a magnificent phenomenon of remarkable acceptance.Among these artists,there are many world-class artists and artists with certain status and influence in the history of Western art,such as Otto Dix,Leon·Golub,Kitaj,Markus Lüpertz,Robert Ballagh,David Hockney and many more.This article draws on the aesthetic methodology,and takes the chain works of May 3rd as the research object.Through the research on classic works of Goya,Manet,and Picasso,it focuses on how the "gun Shot" theme series had taken place in the works,and on how did the three art masters summon their later accepted creations based on their classics and transcendences in terms of subject matter,narrative,painting language,etc.,and dominate the development trend of the entire acceptance chain.Through the "Coefficient" research(horizontal)and "Durability" research(vertical)on the works of the three masters,to inspect and explore European and American artists and theorist,from the 19 th century to the 21 st century,in different times and regions,with different aesthetic concepts,whose the accepted trend,characteristics and reasons for the "Shooting" of Goya,Manet,and Picasso,and the active role of the artist in the creation.Efforts to interpret the metaphoricalness and symbolicity of the classic "Shooting" works by Goya,Manet,and Picasso,and the richness of their painting language made recreations of the recipient certain internal value and artistic charm aspects that can be explained and exerted;and to study the artistic development of this phenomenon.In addition to reception aesthetics as the main theoretical framework,this article also introduced Susanne K.Langer’s "Symbolism",W.J.T.Mitchell’s "Image Theory" and Jacques Rancière’s discussion on "Historical Image".Langer’s "Symbolism" focuses on the analysis of "emotional meaning" and symbolic "symbols".Mitchell’s "Image Theory" focuses on the study of visual culture of images.In the discussion of the "Historical Image",Langer regarded Goya’s May 3rd as a representative of the third historical image,calling it "a subversion of the tradition of painting history." These three methodology and theoretical interpretations provide us with the understanding of the emotional connotation,expression and historical positioning of the classic works after May 3rd,which helps us to demonstrate aesthetic value and historical significance of classic works in many aspects with three-dimensional.In short,this article is investigated and judged by the systematic investigation of the chain works in the two hundred years of May 3rd,which is intended to explore the reason why the classics have become classics and why classics spread for a long time and widely accepted and its value and charm! It can bring some thinking and obtain some inspiration to the theoretical research and creative practice of oil painting. |
