Countless Situations Depend On The Heart

Cheng Xuanying was a Daoist leader in the early Tang Dynasty.The Daoist theory in the early Tang Dynasty faced internal and external troubles.Daoism in pre Qin period,metaphysics in Wei Jin period and Daoism have different understanding of "Dao".Daoism also faces attacks from Buddhism.It is in this difficult situation that theory "Chong Xuan"developed.Cheng Xuanying believed that the human heart is the spiritual subject of human beings,but also the basis of whether all things really exist.Buddhism believes that everything is"Empty" and that everything is false.Daoism believes that everything is real and takes "Dao"as the basis of existence.Cheng believes that both views are correct.The difference between real and unreal lies in the change of the heart."Empty" or "Dao" depends on how people view the world.If there is "separation" in the heart,all things are numerous individuals,individuals wait for the creation of other things,so there is no basis for existence;If there is no "separation" in the heart,everything is a whole,the whole is not created by something else,therefore its existence is real.Both "Dao" and "Empty" lie in the change of people’s hearts.If there is no "separation" in the heart,the "Dao" is in the heart,and the heart is the ultimate basis of all existence.If there is "separation" in the heart,the "Empty" is in the heart,and the heart is the ultimate cause of all emptiness.Moreover,since the truth of all things lies in the change of heart,so also lies the confusion and enlightenment of man.If there is"separation" in the heart,then there will be the desire for right and wrong,and they will cling to themselves and external things.However,those who cling to them are unreal because of the "separation" in their hearts,so they will seek nothing and confuse.If there is no"separation" between people’s heart,then "Dao" in the heart,people will become sages."Dao" has no "separation" in it.The character of "Dao" is called "Xu Tong"."Dao" does not exist in time and space,and "Dao" is eternal and boundless."Dao" does not confine itself to the concepts of being or nothingness,good or evil.The limitlessness of "Dao" is so thorough that it can’t limit itself to limitlessness.Such a thorough and unlimited "Dao" is the real "Dao"."Dao" and all things are both the same and different.If there is "Dao" in the heart,then "Dao" and all things are the same.If there is no "Dao" in the heart,then "Dao" is different from everything.It’s all in the heart.Cheng Xuanying put forward the theory of "Wang Xin" and "Shi Xing".First of all,we should forget the things that people crave,because these things are "Empty".Secondly,we should forget right and wrong,so that the heart will not be biased to both sides.Finally,forget the heart which is not partial to both sides.These are not enough.We have to forget the heart to pursuit of Dao.In addition to forgetting one’s own heart,one should be content with fate and be willing to accept the changes of life and death between oneself and other things.If there is no "separation" between people’s heart,then "Dao" in the heart,people becomes sages.sages should be good for themselves as well as others.The reason why sages are good for themselves is that they are immortal.The reason why sages are beneficial to others is that sages also need to help others achieve immortality.Cheng Xuanying’s theory is the most advanced one in Daoism.He completed the integration of Buddhism and Daoism.The pursuit of immortality is the pursuit of "noseparation" heart.Therefore,Cheng Xuanying is not only a master of Daoism,but also a pioneer of the integration of Confucianism,Buddhism and Daoism.
