| It can be said that without translation literature,traditional Chinese literature would not have been able to obtain resources for renewal and transformation,and it would not have been possible to reshape its own literature.Translated literature is an integral part of modern literature,and modern translated poetry is an extremely important part of translated literature.Modern translated poetry is mainly literary poetry based on literary language and traditional Chinese poetics as the main standard of composition.Influenced by the dichotomous thinking in modern literary history,literary language and vernacular were once in opposition to each other,and the literary concept that literary language is "old-fashioned"and vernacular is "advanced" has affected the status of literary translation poetry in the history of translation and literature.Therefore,this article focuses on the study of literary poetry in translation in the context of modern society,in order to take an objective look at the unique significance of this literary genre for the development of literature.Chapter 1 first introduces the socio-cultural background of the emergence and development of modern literary poetry in translation,and sorts out the main categories of poetic expression in literary translation.The changes in social thought,education system,media communication,and aesthetic class after the Opium War provided a hotbed for the creation of modern literary poetry in translation.The six main poetic forms,Si yan,Wu yan,Sao style,Qi yan,Ci qu style and Miscellaneous speech style,which were formed in the Chinese poetic tradition,showing a strong traditional poetic flavor.The unique historical background and the diverse poetic forms together shape the basic image of literary translation poetry and provide a preliminary understanding for the study of literary translation poetry.Chapter 2 presents the clear history of the occurrence,development,and decline of literary translation poetry in modern times through historical data sorting and research.In the first stage of the early modern period,the group of translators are mainly missionaries.These translated poems are composed with religious themes,and the scope of dissemination and audience were extremely limited.In the second stage of the mid-modern period,the translators,mainly from the Chinese scholarly class,created literary poems for diplomatic exchanges and ambassadorial travels.In addition,many translations of Western scientific and technical works and novels also involved a number of poems in literary translation.In the third stage,in the late modern period,the translators,mainly the advanced intellectuals in China,took the initiative to translate foreign poetry for the purposes of political propaganda and literary appreciation,and literary poetry in translation really entered the vision of the general literati.The fourth stage was the fifteen-year period after the May Fourth Movement,when literary poetry in translation was active together with vernacular poetry in translation.Therefore,it would be a useful addition to modern literary history to sort out the four stages of the development of literary translation poetry:the initial period of creative work for religious propaganda,the period of creative enlightenment for non-literary aesthetic communication,the period of active and conscious literary creative flourishing,and the period of creative perseverance for both literary and vernacular translation.Chapter 3 introduces typical translators of poetry into literary languages and examines their major works.Represented by poets such as Su Manshu,Ma Junwu,Lu Zhiwei,Liu Hannong,and Liang Qichao,literary translation poetry presents diverse thematic features and diverse translation styles.The translations by famous poets help us to deepen our understanding and knowledge of literary poetry in translation,to objectively examine the artistic achievements of literary poetry in translation,and to reassess the status of literary poetry in translation in literary history.Chapter 4 explores the translation choices of literary poems and their relationship to creative writing.The choice of thematic content and poetic form in literary translation poetry is influenced by the ideas of the times,the translator’s subjective motivation and translation strategies,and the relationship between poetry translation and creation is even more complementary.As the starting point of the history of modern Chinese poetry in translation,it opened up a new situation of exchange and contact between Chinese poetry and foreign poetry,giving modern readers the opportunity and experience to go abroad and taste world literature,and influencing the social ideology and literary aesthetics of modern Chinese people.As a testing ground for the fusion and confrontation between traditional poetry and new elements,translated poetry in the literary language was a way for modern poets to embrace and transform traditional aesthetics into new and exotic ones,while for poets who were committed to the creation of new poetry,it provided a perspective to analyze Chinese poetry from the perspective of translation and an inner force to force the creation of poetry in translation into a new era of development. |
