The international trade of Sub-Saharan African(SSA)countries is mainly based on exporting primary agricultural commodities in which they have comparative advantages due to cheap labor,land,and tropical climate.Although Sub-Saharan African countries have been a comparative advantage in agricultural commodities,they have very low performance and share in the international market.There have been various findings on the determinants of exports of agricultural commodities.Some of the study findings have been complementing,while others are contrasting and many of the researches do not acknowledge the internal and external factors,especially institutional environment factors of the agricultural commodities export competitiveness of the region.The majority of sub-Saharan African countries firms are involved in exporting oilseeds which is one of the major export agricultural commodities.This study examines the moderating effect of the institutional environment on the relationship between factor and demand conditions on the export competitiveness of Sub-Saharan African countries oilseed industry over the period 1995 to 2017.The study will conduct based on the theory of Porter's national competitive advantage diamond models and institutional-based view.We employed an econometrics model of fixed effect panel data analysis techniques.The result indicates productivity and export quantity have a significant effect on export competitiveness and the institutional environment significantly moderates their relationship.The findings of the research will contribute to the subject literature of the theory of comparative advantage and institutional-based view and for exporter firms,oilseed industry leaders and policymakers will use to intervene in improving the export competitiveness of the industry.
