Channel coding plays an important role in the future wireless communication, which re-quires high reliability, low latency, and high spectral efficiency to meet the needs of vari-ous services.Polar codes,as the provably capacity-approaching codes with explicit coding structures, have won much attention from academia and industry. With the development of decoding algorithm and the rise of concatenated polar codes, remarkable error-correcting performance can be provided by polar codes. Therefore,it is selected as the coding scheme for 5G e MBB control channel. This dissertation studies the encoding and decoding technolo-gy of binary and non-binary polar codes, which shows great potential for the next-generation wireless communication. The main work is summarized as follows:1.For high spectral efficiency, two classical polar coded modulation schemes,i.e.,multilevel polar coding(MLPC)and bit-interleaver based polar coded modulation(BIPCM)scheme, are studied. For MLPC scheme, the mapping rules and code rate allocation for each level are designed based on the capacity of multilevel coded modulation system. For rate matching in BIPCM system,a method of constructing polar codes based on mixed kernels is proposed to achieve arbitrary code lengths. In particular,to be compatible with 16-QAM and64-QAM concurrently,we applied a mixed matrix with Ar?kan's kernel and a 3×3 kernel as component matrices to construct polar codes. In addition, for further improving spectral efficiency,a geometric shaping method based on non-uniform constellations is introduced, which is suitable for SCL-like serial decoding structure without soft information iteration.2.Since the optimal number of check bits for concatenated polar codes varies with SNR and code rate,hash-polar codes are proposed, which can provide higher reliability and flexible outer code lengths through a hash encoder.By analyzing the decoding error probability for systematic concatenated polar codes,we then propose an adaptive hash-polar coding scheme,in which the number of check bits varies with SNRs according to the provid-ed upper-bound.In order to improve the error-correcting performance at high SNR,partial hash-polar codes are proposed, where terminal processing is applied and only partial in-formation is fed into the hash encoder. The partial information is selected in terms of the generator matrix's row-weights and will be coded twice by the hash encoder. Moreover,we design and apply the proposed hash-polar codes for 5G e MBB control channel.By analyz-ing the false alarm rate(FAR)performance, the proposed hash-polar codes with designed check bits can meet the 5G or even any FAR target. In addition, segmented hash-polar codes are proposed to support early termination(ET)and save energy, where we also provide an efficient searching method for the length of segments and the number of the corresponding check bits to meet any FAR target as well as ET support.3.For low latency,we propose a new class of non-binary polar codes by using multi-plicative repetition method. Moreover,a method to select multipliers is given and proved to guarantee q-ary channel polarization. In terms of code construction, the bit-level code con-struction is considered, which is different from existing constructions and will result in some partially frozen symbols. Then,an active-check method is proposed by using the frozen bits in partially frozen symbols to facilitate SCL decoding, where the error propagation is re-duced by extra check constraints.By analyzing decoding complexity and decoding latency,a low complexity decoding method is proposed by only considering q_s<q symbols for each decoding node at the receiver.Simulation results show that the proposed non-binary polar codes outperform binary polar codes and even the LDPC codes designed for 5G u RLLC scenario. For improving the spectral efficiency, two kinds of non-binary polar coded mod-ulation schemes,i.e.,single level coded modulation scheme and mixed multilevel coded modulation scheme, are introduced. In addition, since non-binary codes show good prop-erties against burst noise, the application of the proposed non-binary polar codes in high mobility scenarios is also considered.
