Chen Yin Ke is an outstanding historian in modern China, but his view of history is controversial.Through research, the author finds that the definition of Chen Yin Ke's view of history as a view of cultural history not only conforms to Chen Yin Ke's life experience, but also accords with the basic spirit of Chen Yin Ke's writings. In order to clarify Chen Yin Ke's view of cultural history, this paper from the perspective of social history, philosophy history, academic history and so on,through the corresponding study of Chen Yin Ke's writings and his family legacy, modern experiences, overseas study experience, comprehensively reveals the historical basis and ideological resources of Chen Yin Ke's view of cultural history. In addition to the "introduction" and "conclusion",the body of this paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter focuses on the connotation of Chen Yin Ke's view of cultural history. In order to avoid the confusion of concepts and logic, this chapter first interprets and defines the relevant terms such as "history","view of history","culture" and "view of culture history".Secondly,in order to grasp the spirit and basis of Chen Yin Ke's view of cultural history, this paper makes a related research on his life and historical status. Finally, based on Chen Yin Ke's writings, this paper expounds the connotation of Chen Yin Ke's view of cultural history combined with the academic debates on his view of history. The second chapter, mainly through the family tradition inheritance of The Chen family and the Yining family,in the crisis of the late Qing Dynasty, explores the factors of the origin of Chen Yin Ke's cultural history and national difficulties. From The Yimen Chen clan to the Yining Chen clan, this family developed a family tradition of filial piety, diligence in study, dehumanization of the countryside, and helping the whole world. This promoted The formation of Chen Yin Ke's concept of attaching importance to the inheritance of family culture, emphasizing the shaping of morality and humanity, and highlighting the role of moral principles and etiquette.Secondly, the stimulation of the national crisis in modern China and the spirit of taking responsibility of Yining's father and son made Chen Yin Ke realize the urgency of pursuing national independence and people's freedom earlier. Moreover, the idea of valuing culture and education, emphasizing tradition and drawing lessons from western learning, advocated by Yining and his son in the modern national disaster, also deeply influenced Chen Yin Ke.The third chapter explores the origin of Chen Yin Ke's view of cultural history through his study in Hongwen Institute of Japan and his relationship with The Japanese academic community. When western scholars took the lead in the study of Orientalism and Sinology,The Idea of civilization and the theory of change in the Middle Ages formed a rival to western Sinology and Orientalism.Chen Yin Ke tried to find a place for the survival of Chinese culture in the extremely difficult environment. It is not possible to speculate directly whether Chen Chen Yin Ke's "media-style western application" was influenced by Japan's "harmony with Han Talent" or "harmony with foreign talent",but the stimulation of Chinese people's "group driving their neighbors to the east by national history" and his own experience in Japan obviously promoted his idea of pursuing independence and freedom and emphasizing the subjectivity of national culture. The fourth chapter focuses on the elite cultural tradition of Harvard University,Langman's neo-classical philology thought, and Baibbitt's new humanism on Chen Yin Ke's view of cultural history. When Chen Yin Ke first visited the European continent,he experienced two events which had certain influence on his conception of culture and history.First,He read Marx's original das Kapital when He was studying in The University of Zurich.Second,He had thought about the western democratic system when He was studying in the University of Paris. When he went to Study in Europe and America for the second time,he first chose Harvard University. The cultural tradition of Harvard University was deeply engraved in Chen Yin Ke's young heart.Chen Yin Ke took two courses: classical linguistics and European and American history.Lanman was Chen Yin Ke's main mentor at Harvard. His emphasis on the exploration of the classical spirit and the view of the evolution of history and language from the perspective of the connection between ancient civilization and modern civilization undoubtedly had an important influence on Chen Yin Ke.In particular, this paper finds the significance of Villarmowitz's History of Classical Studies for Chen Yin Ke and Langman.Another Harvard tutor who had a great influence on Chen Yin Ke was Baibbitt.Chen Yin Ke followed a kind of Baibbitt balance and humanistic principles in his study and life.At the same time,Chen Yin Ke's advocation of Theravada Buddhism was obviously influenced by Baibbitt. The fifth chapter expounds the origin of Chen Yin Ke's view of cultural history from three aspects: The history and culture of Germany, the idea of Berlin University, his major and tutor when he studied in Berlin University.Chen Yin Ke studied at The University of Berlin in Germany for two times and took German history and culture as his elective course, which made him deeply influenced by German history and culture in his view of history. The prevailing trends of natural science, philosophy, theology and history in Germany all had an influence on Chen Yin Ke.The founding of the University of Berlin is the product of Germanic cultural nationalism.Humboldt's concept of "language is the manifestation of national spirit" greatly influenced the philosophical and linguistic standpoint of the University of Berlin.Luders' historicization-oriented study of classical linguistics is the development of Humboldt's philosophy of language.Under the guidance of his tutor,Ludes et al.,Chen Yin Ke focused on the Oriental linguistics centered on Sanskrit and achieved remarkable results.Chen Yinque opposed mysticism, pursued scientific evidence, adhered to the spirit of independence, and emphasized humanistic morality, which obviously left the imprint of Luders. In a word, through the above research, this paper not only clarifies the historical basis and ideological resources of Chen Yin Ke's view of cultural history, but also further clarifies the spiritual connotation of Chen Yin Ke's view of cultural history. This research has both academic value and practical significance.
