The Creation Society was one of the important literary societies in the period of the May 4th Movement,whose existence truly made the climax of romantic literary creation in the history of Chinese modern literature.Among all kinds of literary genres which created by the writers of the Creation Society,the novels’ artistic originality was very clear.They had the characteristics of inheriting the past and ushering the future,as well as blending Chinese and Western cultures.They embodied remarkable creativity and innovation in art,and showed the style of the pioneer.In the wave of the personal liberation and emotional liberation during the May 4th Movement,the writers of the Creation Society liberated their personalities and emotions,payed special attention to individuality and subjective emotions,and greatly enhanced their subjective consciousness in the process of novel creation.Particularly,instead of being committed to the reappearance and reflection of the objective world simply,the novels of the Creation Society payed attention to starting from the inner world of the subject,focused on the expression of the subjective world,and were distinctively characterized by subjective,lyric and expressive art.Although the novels of the Creation Society after turning were characterized by revolutionary color,their affirmation and admiration of subjective emotions existed as always.In those works,the personal emotions of little self were raised to the emotions of big self,such as the era,class,society,and even nation and country.Compared with traditional novels,the novels of the Creation Society changed greatly in terms of artistic aspect,such as creation concepts,expression methods,genre styles,subject choices and so on,and brought the innovation for the artistic expression system of Chinese modern novels.The thesis locks on the novels of the Creation Society,which were originally focused on reproducible art.The novels of the Creation Society during the whole period are regarded as a whole.They are the key points,difficulties and challenges in the research process of this thesis,as well as the innovation and the space for exploration.In the course of research,the thesis draws lessons from rich theoretical resources,including evolution theory,novel art theory,aesthetic theory,psychological theory,and modernity theory.At the same time,the thesis researches deep and systematicly on the novels of the Creation Society from the perspective of artistic innovation,using various kinds of research methods,such as combination of concept interpretation and text analysis,combination of macro grasp and micro review,combination of horizontal comparison and vertical comparison.The thesis is divided into three parts:introduction,body and conclusion.There are five chapters in the body.The first chapter demonstrates and analyzes the context of the novels of the Creation Society.Based on this background,the thesis studies the innovation of novels from the Creation Society in terms of aesthetic ideals,artistic paradigms,expression system,and stylistic strategies.And it analyzes them systematicly from the second chapter to the fifth chapter.In the aspect of the aesthetic ideals’ innovation,the novels of the Creation Society emphasized the subjectivity,individuality and sensibility.Therefore,in terms of the artistic paradigms of novels from the Creation Society,their essence was the internalization of the visual threshold.There were three specific manifestations of artistic paradigms,including the paradigm of self-lyric regarding the first person as the lyric perspective,the paradigm of inner scrutiny regarding the psychological consciousness as the lyric clue,and the paradigm of youth eulogy regarding the love and marriage as the lyric object.On the basis of this art,the expression system of novels from the Creation Society consisted of lyrical discourse,narrative discourse and argumentative discourse.And they were respectively embodied in the characteristics and functions,highlighting the subject,from inside to outside,and manifesting the will.At the same time,the innovation in the stylistic strategies of novels from the Creation Society was mainly embodied in the creation of the modality,including the the subjective lyric idea,the time and space of self-lyric,and the lyric structure of prosification.The writers of the Creation Society and the novels of the Creation Society explored actively in the aspect of artistic innovation taking the pioneer’s stance.They made important historical contributions to the reformation of Chinese modern literature,especially modern novels.The self-lyric novels created by the Creation Society provided a new creation paradigm and artistic style for modern novels,which had far-reaching significance and influence.Of course,the innovation of the novels from the Creation Society also had some limitations.In essence,the excess of strong emotions and the excess of observation distance were the spiritual confusion of the creation subjects behaving as the pioneer during the historical transition period,as well as a reflection of the lack of maturity in art.
