Research On Stuctural Thoughts Of Klang

The movement of music to "sound" is a typical tendency of the 20th century contemporary music development. The works of this kind are far different from the traditional music of the "commonness period" in aspects including sound materials, structure, perception modes and aesthetic orientation. Because of this, a notion "Klang" widely used in world's academic domain but never clear defined, involving the category of sound-art attributing to it, are suggested and systemically demonstrated in this dissertation to substitute for the designation "music" to describe the differentiated forms of the current sound-art.The author firstly compares the "Klang" with traditional music in their character and structure through dialectic ways, and makes a theoretical definition of the "Klang". Then, some sound typology methods appeared in the theories and composition practices in history are illustrated. As a result, those more complex sound materials are looked into from different angles of view. The most important part of the article emerges, in which the structural thoughts of "Klang" will be explored. The exploration is divided into three parts: configuration structure, meaning structure, Gestalt structure. Some new notions are suggested in the process:"gesture", "state", "variability", "contraposition" "source distance", "Klang archetype", "Klang layer(n)", "Klang gestalt", etc. and they are discussed and explained in many examples. The series of research processes unveils the panorama of both the "Klang" and its structural thoughts."Researching into the essence" is the attitude conceived by the author which impenetrating the whole writing process. Besides, the traditional music is always a reference of the research. From comparing the "Klang" with it, the prevalent regularity of aural arts will be concluded. The author has also read many theory books and papers in this field abroad. They are the fundamental thoughts and inspirations of this dissertation. Therefore, accompanying the quite new standpoints of the final conclusion a value judgment of catholicity is all along implemented.
