Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this research is to analyze the relationship between the impact of healthcare information technologies and IT vendor support on the level of effectiveness of information security management. Healthcare information technologies refer to various forms of information systems in healthcare such as electronic health record systems. IT vendors are business associates of healthcare providers who are responsible for maintaining and upgrading health information technologies, as well as providing the necessary protection mechanisms to enhance the security of healthcare data. IT vendors also ensure that healthcare information systems are certified as per the meaningful use criteria. Information security management refers to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of an organization's confidential information resources. This study is based on secondary data from the American Hospital Association IT healthcare database, and the participants include healthcare workers in various U.S. hospitals who have knowledge of or experience using healthcare information technologies. A quantitative approach is employed in this study, and the statistical tests performed to investigate the relationship between the predictors and the outcome variables include standard multiple regression and hierarchical regression analyses. The findings of this research indicate that the predictors have a positive linear relationship with the outcome variable. This research is generalizable to other industries outside the healthcare arena, since it can provide insight into or aid in the study of the impact of various types of information systems and IT vendor support on information security management in various organizational settings. Keywords: healthcare information technologies, EHRs, IT vendors, information security management, security risk analysis, healthcare, hierarchical regression, multiple regression.
