Abstract/Summary:
A brief overview of several spread spectrum systems is presented with emphasis on the direct sequence and the frequency hopping systems. An effort is made to motivate the idea of sequences with certain desirable properties relative to spread spectrum systems.;Applications for this new class of sequences to direct sequence and frequency hopping spread spectrum systems are mentioned. Finally, the existence of periodic m-ary sequences (m > 5) is verified. An investigation of their periodic autocorrelation function reveals that they too exhibit ideal periodic autocorrelation properties.;Two original methods for constructing periodic 5-ary sequences are discussed. These sequences constitute a new class of periodic 5-ary sequences. The periodic correlation functions are investigated along with the power spectral density function. Subsequently, these sequences are shown to possess several of the desirable properties that are prerequisites for spreading sequences; one of which is the ideal autocorrelation property.
