Abstract/Summary:
A wide range of numerical simulations have been performed to study the behavior of coherent structures in a steady, forced-dissipative, homogeneous, incompressible, two-dimensional (2D) turbulent fluid, a model system of importance in the study of geophysical fluid dynamics. Flow regimes are examined and compared with classical inertial range theories of 2D turbulence. In the enstrophy inertial range, strong vortices are found at the forcing scale and smaller.
