Abstract/Summary:
This study was undertaken to determine the causation and impact of motor vehicles accidents in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Although numerous such studies have been carried out in developed countries such as the United States and several European countries, no similar research has been conducted in Saudi Arabia.; This study was successful in classifying the variables which were significant in accident causation. It also identified the variables which were contributors to accident severity.; Data obtained from insurance companies in Saudi Arabia were utilized in conjunction with a questionnaire, completed by drivers who had been involved in accidents. An analysis of these data was made by implementation of statistical methods such as loglinear (logistic) and logit modelling. Finally, countermeasures are proposed which will, hopefully, reduce the number of such accidents in the future, as well as minimize the suffering and social costs which ensue from such accidents.
