Abstract/Summary:
The present study examined the spiritual intelligence differences between working adults with an internal locus of control and an external locus of control. Measures of spiritual intelligence and its four factors (critical existential thinking, personal meaning production, transcendental awareness, and conscious state expansion) were compared between two groups of 60 participants. A sample of 120 working adults was recruited from a general population via Internet sources. Independent samples t tests provided evidence that spiritual intelligence, critical existential thinking, and personal meaning production are significantly higher in working adults with an internal locus of control when compared to an external locus of control. Conversely, transcendental awareness and conscious state expansion were not significantly higher in working adults with an internal locus of control when compared to an external locus of control. The implications of spiritual intelligence's potential to affect intrinsic motivation and job satisfaction are discussed. Suggestions for future research to increase sample size and examine specific work industries are explained. Additional implications and suggestions for future studies are discussed.
