| The purpose of this study is to provide a better understanding why young Singaporeans are returning to their cultural roots and enhancing their ethnic identity.;Subjects for this study are Singaporeans. They completed surveys in the form of interviews and a questionnaire. As a framework for the study, a distinctive theoretical perspective was provided which combined the perspective of old and contemporary perspectives of ethnic identification.;The result of this study identify the purposes as well as the communication strategies used to create and maintain the Peranakan identity. Analysis also provides insights into a truly Singaporean identity-racial balance, mutual caring, sharing and understanding within the varied cultures.;Future research should focus on potential effects on governmental policies and the continued effects of cultural identity on a society. |
